Mathew 4: 1-11; Mark 1-13
Satan is a person and he has personality traits including intellect (2 Cor. 11:3; Luke 4:1f). Ascribed to him are the emotions of desire (1 Tim. 3:6; Isa. 14:12f,), jealousy (Job 1:8, 9), hatred (1 Pet. 4:8), anger (rev. 12:12) and will.
Names ascribed to Satan (Rev. 12:9): great dragon, serpent of old and the devil and Satan who deceives.
The devil is a real enemy of God and humans who deceives – Gen. 3:1Satan stands against God’s people – Chronicles 21:1; Ps. 109:6
Jesus made 25 of the 29 references to Satan found in the Gospels. Christ carried an extended conversation with Satan during his temptation. To deny the reality of Satan is to challenge the integrity or sanity of Jesus Christ.
Evil by it’s nature interacts with intellect and will.
The existence of thousands of false religions and cults testifies to the existence of a great Deceiver – 1 Tim. 4:1-2
Some believe that only the uneducated believe in a personal devil. Remember that Satan will deceive different people (societies) differently. The Western world has seen far more occultic activity and reports of demonic manifestations.Great minds like Augustine, Blaise Pascal and C.S. Lewis believed in Satan. It is not the degree of intelligence or education that determines weather one believes in a personal Satan. Rather, is depends on weather one has rejected the supernatural revelation of Scripture.
