If Jesus Had Not Been Born

Posted on 15 December 2008 by Radu

Following is a meditation about Jesus Christ’s birth and it’s significance.

If Jesus had not been born… then…

This would not be ‘the year of our Lord”, 2008.
There would be No Churches, No Westminster Abbey, No National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., or any other Grand Cathedrals. Nor would there be the little churches like Redeemer Baptist Church in Aurora, CO., Valley Baptist Church in Nebraska, the small country Church on Pfifer Mountain in Tennessee, or the Hume Lake Bible Camp, in California.

There would be No Unites States of America as we know it today.

We would never hear a single Christmas Carol or Handel’s “Messiah” with the “Hallelujah Chorus”.

We would have never heard of Martin Luther, John Wesley, John Calvin, Corrie Ten Boom, Fanny Crosby, C. S. Lewis, or Billy Graham,

There would be no Christmas Trees, no beautifully wrapped gifts, no garlands, lights, no carolers, no special family dinners, no greetings from friends along with lovely cards.

There would be no BIBLES, no organizations such as Salvation Army, Rescue Missions to care for and feed the homeless, no Red Cross, Methodist Hospitals, Baptist Hospitals, Catholic Hospitals, Lutheran Hospitals, Presbyterian Hospitals or Adventists Hospitals; no Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Purdue, Bethe~, Baylor, or Southern Methodist Universities.

We would have no such books as “Tale of Two Cities”, “Dicken’s Christmas Carol”, “The Grinch That Stole Christmas”, or “Charlie Brown’s Chistmas”.

We would have no movies such as “Ben Hur”, “The Cross and the Switch Blade”, “Chariots of Fire”, “Narnia”, an scores of others.

We would never had heard such song as “Joy To The World”

Phrases would never have been brought into our language such as Good Samaritan, Prodigal Son, Lost Sheep or any of Jesus’ other parables.

We would not have teachings that have entered our every day speech such as turn the other cheek, go the second mile, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and love your enemies.

It’s unlikely that this continent would have seen the arrival of the Pilgrims, and if they had come by some other name, years later, President Washington could have been King George instead.

It could be easily argued that the United States Founding Documents would not be what they are.

Descendents of the Mayans in Chiapas, Mexico would still sacrifice their children.

The New Testament would never have been written.

Prophecies would remain unfulfilled, and God would be a Liar. The serpent would not be crushed, we would not be delivered, death would not be conquered.

There would be no mediator between God and man, The veil not yet rent. For the man Christ Jesus would not have been born and we would remain dead in our trespasses and sins.

BUT JESUS WAS BORN!

May the realization of the sweeping impact of His Birth, Life, Death, and Resurrection fill you with Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory as you sing “Away In The Manager”, “Silent Night, Holy Night”, and “0 Come All Ye Faithful

And you would never hear, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.
